A Multi-layer Superposition Modulation Scheme to Improve the Data Rate for IoT Communications
LoRa is an emerging low-power wide-area network (LPWAN) technology. Its physical layer utilizes a chirp spread spectrum (CSS)-based modulation scheme and has a lower data rate. This paper first presents a multiple-slope-keying CSS (MSKCSS) modulation with an enhanced data rate. Then we propose an MSK-CSS-based multi-layer superposition modulation (MLSM) scheme designed to increase the data rate of LoRa modulation. In addition, we also analyze the orthogonality of MSK-CSS signals of different MFs and give the allocation rule of MFs in different layers. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed MLSM scheme achieves a flexible trade-off between data rate and bit error rate performance.
