Gallipoli Oak Tree: Last Friday we had a fabulous opportunity to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the Gallipoli landing. Rye Primary School was given a little oak tree which had been grown from an acorn from an oak tree brought from Gallipoli. The tree was planted at the front of the school by 5 students who are direct descendants of diggers who went to World War 1 from Rye. After the tree planting we had an assembly in the hall. The School leaders and the choir led us with readings, songs, and the National Anthem in a beautiful remembrance with a lovely contribution of a poem from Talia. I was extremely proud to be principal of Rye Primary School as I can honestly say every single student in the hall engaged with the commemoration and demonstrated great respect through their behaviour. Many of our visitors commented on the students behaviour in a very positive way. A big thank you to Mrs Berndt for organising this event and to the many other staff who contributed to the event.
