Water Footprint at Schools with Arduino Project: STEM and Sustainable Development Goals
- How can we measure the Water Footprint at Schools? The objective of this work was to apply an Arduino Project to measure water flow at School. The proposal aimed to reduce the Water Footprint and involve Sciences, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The work achieved its purpose, as it managed to apply an Arduino Project in school environments to assess the water footprint per capita. This project managed to reduce the water footprint compared to schools that did not carry out this action. The interdisciplinary and innovative project involved the whole school. This action creates a new way of using educational objects and devising strategies to reduce water consumption in some School environments. Students who reduced their water footprints obtained the highest marks in the National Exams. This highlight proves how important it is to promote engagement in contextual practices. Thus, joining STEM and SDG was a successful alternative in the students’ learning processes and for environmental purposes.
