Rudimentary horn: Miseries of missed diagnosis – A case series
A unicornuate uterus with a noncommunicating rudimentary horn is a rare uterine anomaly. The usual presentation is often asymptomatic; however, it can have catastrophic sequelae and long-term morbidity if not diagnosed. A case series of three cases with a varied clinical presentation of noncommunicating rudimentary horn was discussed. All cases had undergone a primary surgery, wherein the rudimentary horn was either unattended or undiagnosed, and later, they had to suffer with long-term morbidities due to complications related to noncommunicating rudimentary horn and had to undergo repeat surgery for definitive management. It should be routine for a surgeon to look for normal anatomy of the uterus and position of the uterine appendages, insertion of round ligaments in any pelvic surgery, and common operations like cesarean sections.
