Analysis of the use of a language is an interesting topic to study. The current manuscript implement Systemic functional linguistics (SFL) theory which focuses on exploring the social and cultural context of language use in a piece of writing. SFL it self is an approach to linguistics that considers language as a social semiotic system which focuses on the function of language in social contexts and the choices that language users make. This paper is intended to analyze students’ recount text writing in SFL perspectives, and how teachers can assist students in solving writing problems. Specifically this study hopefully can identify in what aspects that Indonesian students usually made some errors, based on three metafunctions from SFL perspective. The finding shows that most of the students did errors in the use of tense, generic structure, and grammatical errors. 摘要

语言是一个民族的文化财富。分析语言的使用是一个有趣的研究课题。本文采用系统功能语言学(SFL)理论,着重于探索写作中语言使用的社会和文化背景。外语学习本身就是一种将语言视为一种社会符号系统的语言学研究方法,它关注语言在社会语境中的功能和语言使用者的选择。本文旨在从外语的角度分析学生的叙述语篇写作,以及教师如何帮助学生解决写作问题。具体来说,本研究希望能够基于外语视角的三个元功能,找出印尼学生通常在哪些方面犯了一些错误。调查结果显示,大多数学生在时态的使用、一般结构和语法错误方面存在错误。因此,过渡-动作-细节(TAD)可以作为写作教学策略之一,尤其是在印尼语语境下的叙述语篇写作。
