Overview of Matrix Converter: Topologies and Modulation
This paper presents a summary of the matrix converter topologies. An overview of the constrictive semiconductor elements, the usual switching problems, the protection systems, the estimation of losses, and the reliability of the direct and the indirect matrix converters topologies as well as the improvement of the quality of the electric power is established. Simulation results under Matlab/Simulink of both direct and indirect matrix converter topologies feeding an inductive load via a balanced three-phase voltage system are discussed. A unit displacement factor and a maximum value of the transfer voltage ratio are obtained as well as the properties of the two matrix converter topologies are evaluated.
