A Non-Invasive Method for Measurement of Blood Glucose using Bio Impedance Technique
Measurement of Bioimpedance is a non-invasive, inexpensive as well as a widely used technique for measuring body composition measurements and also to assess the health condition and nutrition. This technique is a painless one and involves the passage of a small amplitude electrical current having a particular frequency applied through cables connected to electrodes placed on the human body, enabling the measurement of resistance (R) and capacitive reactance (Xc), which is performed using an analog device. At low frequencies current pass through extracellular fluids and at high frequencies it penetrates the cellular membrane and gets into the intracellular fluid. The focus of the proposed works is to investigate the possibilities of monitoring the blood glucose status non-invasively by using the bioimpedance data which would permit more frequent testing and a tighter control of diabetes. The Bioimpedance values measured from various subjects are trained against the actual value of Blood Glucose measured using the conventional clinical process using ANFIS, an adaptive estimation algorithm and are further tested for various other subjects. The results obtained are found to be well within the tolerable accuracy limits. The hardware circuit for bioimpedance measurement is interfaced with LabView environment for the estimation.
