Performance of hard and soft handover for CDMA system
Based on a handover (HO) model and two basic HO algorithms in the CDMA system, this paper proposes expressions of the outage probability and mean active set number (MASN) for hard HO (HHO) and soft HO (SHO). By simulations in the WCDMA (FDD) system, the lower and upper bound of HHO and SHO are presented, and their performance difference at various HO thresholds are compared. Moreover, this paper concludes the simulation results are significant to both the tradeoff between quality of service (QoS) and system resource efficiency (SRE) and the optimal deployment of HO.
