Towards a Complete Gait Analysis using Optical Fiber Bragg Gratings
The continuous ageing of the population carries its heavy burden on the healthcare systems and physical rehabilitation processes. With the increase of impaired and physical debilitated citizens, new solutions to aid in the rehabilitation process are required. In this work, we describe the design and implementation of a set of optical fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors based solutions for full gait analysis. The proposed non-invasive architectures comprise sensors for angular monitoring at the knee and ankle location, and an instrumented insole for plantar pressure analysis. The overall assembly intends to be a tool for physiotherapists in the rehabilitation process evaluation or in routine daily activities.
