Pumped storage hydro (PSH) is proposed to provide compensation for variable generation of renewable sources. To maintain the ability of frequency control, the allowable variation level of renewable generation is considered. The solution method is tested with the PSH unit at Bhumibol dam, a hydro power plant of The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT).
