This paper explains how to use STCR to produce inductive reactive power with discrete steps of operation from zero to full reactive power rating of the inductor. Paper studies several topologies used as STCR and illustrates the specifications of each topology. Paper proposes the required theoretical and practical parameters to design STCR system. Paper proposes novel topologies to control the reactive power with zero harmonic content; moreover, these topologies satisfy the practical requirements for design.
