Within the European Union, Directive 2014/34/EU regulates the placing on the market of equipment, protective systems and components intended for use in such hazardous atmospheres. In this regard, for proofing the compliance with the essential safety requirements, they have to be subject to a certification process carried out by a Notified Body. The CE marking and the Ex ATEx marking (labelling) can be applied to the product only after it has been ensured that the product meets all applicable requirements set out by the Directive and related technical standards in force.
