Spatial Isolation Methodology Analysis in Ka Band for LEO-GEO Coexistence Systems
The deficiency of traditional spectrum resources has been a problem in satellite communication and designs of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellation in Ka band has become the hotspot. However, these designs should inevitably cause coexistence interference to the existing Geostationary (GEO) satellite system. In this paper, the spatial isolation method in LEO-GEO coexistence systems is considered to guarantee the coexistence interference level to meet requirements from International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Furthermore, a concept of GEO band is proposed for the interference exclusion zone determination. Then the impact of the zone on the LEO satellite constellation density is analyzed. Finally, the exclusion zone determination is simulated and the relationship between the zone and the relevant constellation density is found, which is significant in LEO satellite constellation design.
