Appropriate unit selection cost functions, namely concatenation cost and target cost, are proposed for syllable based synthesis. Proposed concatenation costs have shown significant reduction in perceptual discontinuity at syllable joins. Three-stage target cost formulation is proposed for selecting appropriate units from database.
