Discrete event simulation of an automated warehouse inspection system with drones
A discrete event simulation model was designed and implemented in order to test and optimize the operation of a prototypical automated warehouse inspection system based on drones and wireless communications. The system prototype, which included both hardware and software parts, was developed and presented elsewhere. We applied the simulation model under realistic conditions particular for a specific warehouse originally used for testing the said system prototype. We test various ”whatif” scenarios by varying a couple of key control parameters with the purpose of demonstrating how discrete event simulation is useful not only for testing such a system but also for aiding design and system parameterization for optimal performance and efficiency.
