Analysis of Overvoltage in Distribution Networks under different Ground Conditions using ATP
present paper evaluates the influence of the grounding systems conditions associated to the presence of arresters in the overvoltages coming from atmospheric surges in electrical distribution grids. The analysis considers the transient behavior of the electrical system, based on computational simulations carried out with the support of the ATP (Alternative Transient Program) software. This paper deals with a critical issue in the area of electrical power systems, related to the consequences of deficiencies in the grounding system to the operation of electrical grid. Detailed models of the main components from power system that interact in this process are presented, demonstrating through transient computational simulations, that the improvement of the ground conditions allows a better protection of the equipment in terms of insulation coordination.
