A new continuous conduction mode PFC IC with average current mode control
A new continuous conduction mode (CCM) PFC controller, named ICE1PCS01, is developed based on a new control scheme. Compared to the conventional PFC solution, the new IC does not need the direct sine-wave sensing reference signal from the AC mains. Average current control is implemented to achieve the unity power factor. Enhanced dynamic response is introduced to improve the poor behavior during sudden load jump. A unique soft start is adopted to prevent high inrush current during startup. There are also various protections to ensure the safe system operation. The IC operation is described and the test results are presented.
