New PAPR reduction technique combining the Tone Reservation based on PCG algorithm with Clipping
In this work, we propose a new method to resolve the great Peak-to-Average Power ratio (PAPR) problem of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) modulations. By using both techniques: Tone Reservation (TR) and Clipping (CL), which have a certain complementarity, we can improve their performance in terms of convergence speed, transmission quality through Error Vector Magnitude (EVM) and Bit Error Rate (BER) results. The TR technique exploits the null sub-carriers in communications standards in order to generate a correction signal used to reduce the PAPR. Nevertheless, this method has limited performances due to the reduced number of the available sub-carriers. For this purpose, our contribution is to introduce a new approach for the TR technique based on Preconditioned Conjugate Gradient (PCG) optimization algorithm combined with the CL technique. The simulations with WiMax 802.16e standard shown that this new technique realizes an increased PAPR reduction compared to the classical and more recent methods with similar parameters.
