Power apparatus as the foundation of the power transmission system now needs to improve the explosion prevention ability. In this paper, we proposed a new testing method to research explosion protection when an AC shot circuit fault caused an arc to occur inside the power apparatus. The arc will vaporize the oil and may result in an explosion and huge damage to the whole power transmission system. The unique testing platform with a large power generating system, synchronous measure system, and fire protection system is designed and established. Testing circuit designed can generate arc with fixed preset arc current value. And a measuring system can synchronously record the key information e.g. arc voltage, the pressure of the apparatus, stress of the binder bolt, and the temperature of the oil.
