The fossil record of the family Lecythidaceae is very sparse globally. We report a fossil leaf of Barringtonia (Lecythidaceae) from the late Oligocene sediments of Assam, India. The modern distribution and fossil records of the genus indicate its origin in Gondwana derived continents.
