The basic design procedure and some of the important factors affecting forging die design are explained from the viewpoint of expert-system methodology. The requirements of a good database and heuristic rules which help in reaching an optimal design goal for this particular design problems are discussed. An overview of the use of this system for designing a forging die and constructing forging geometry is provided.
