Electrical Integration of Venezuela and Colombia: A New Development
Based on the need to foster the use of the advantages offered by the complementarity of the economies of the Republic of Colombia and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela for purposes of developing the borderline shared by both countries, negotiations were conducted between the Venezuelan Company Compania Anonima de Administracion y Fomento Electrico (CADAFE, Spanish acronym for the Venezuelan electrical utility company), and the Instituto de Planificacion y Proniocion de Soluciones Energeticas (IPSE, Spanish acronym for the Colombian Energy Solutions Planning and Development Institute) in order to enter into an electrical supply agreement with a duration of 20 years. The execution of the work required for power supply has helped to improve the standards of living of the inhabitants of that borderline region and further increase the economic activity in Puerto Nuevo and Puerto Paez (Venezuela), and Puerto Carreno (Colombia) as well, with the concomitant impact on the commercial exchange between both countries
