The purpose of the text is to clarify the tools for the development of cultural and civilizational worlds during the period of forced transformations, to highlight the consolidating role of the spiritual and moral foundations of creative activity (in particular, scientific and intellectual). The main objective of this article is to consider the sociocultural prerequisites for conducting of a strategy of radical changes: without betraying by leaders yourself and your people, without betraying your past, present and future. The theoretical and methodological basis of the article consists in research devoted, firstly, to the formation of an understanding of progress, secondly, to the possibilities of combining self-development and conscious regulation, and thirdly, to the features of transition periods. Special attention is drawn to the difference between the characteristics of social progress and regression. Their causes, manifestations, triggers and driving forces are considered. The work takes into account the impact of disasters (for example, epidemics) on the course of social transformations.
