Study of microwave and optical properties of a polymer electrooptic modulator
The microwave and optical parameters of a ridge type polymer electrooptic modulator have been studied in light of the changes in different structural parameters. The quasi-static finite element technique is used to obtain the potential distribution as solution of Laplace equation over the cross-sectional domain. Thus the microwave field, power, effective index and characteristic impedance have been calculated. For optical mode analysis, a vector finite element method has been incorporated. The calculated effective optical index and the overlap factor of microwave field and optical field have been utilized to find the half-wave voltage and length product of the device. The work shows the potential of an optimized structure with lower losses and maximized bandwidth.
