Wearable triangular patch antenna for ON/OFF body communication
A compact all textile dual band dual mode triangular patch antenna is designed for wearable applications. The antenna has a patch like radiation pattern in 3.5GHz WLAN band for OFF body communication whereas vertical monopole-like radiation pattern in 5.8 GHz ISM band for communicating with other sensors based ON body devices. The antenna is fabricated and tested over human hand. Due to the characteristic radiation pattern of the antenna at two operating frequencies, the antenna is found to be least coupled with the human body and thereby a low specific absorption rate (SAR) value of 0.21 W/Kg and 1.21 W/kg at two resonant frequencies. The simulation results were found to be in good agreement with the measurement results.
