SISTEM PEMILIHAN UMUM DALAM KAITAN DENGAN NEGARA DEMOKRASI

- This study aims to find legal arguments through an analysis of the electoral system in relation to democratic countries. Constitutionally, it has been expressly stated that the State of Indonesia is a country where sovereignty is in the hands of the people, known as a Democratic State and a rule of law. The rule of law and democracy are both desirable attributes of a political system. One manifestation of political rights owned by citizens is through general elections (elections), because elections are a form of community participation. General Elections in Indonesia are held directly, publicly, freely, confidentially, honestly and fairly every five years. Besides that, general elections are also held by an election commission that is national, permanent and independent or independent, this institution is hereinafter referred to as the General Election Commission or KPU. The objectives of holding General Elections are: To enable the transition of government leadership in an orderly and peaceful manner; To enable the replacement of officials who will represent the interests of the people in representative institutions; To carry out the principle of popular sovereignty; and To implement the principle of citizens' human rights.
