Czarkowski was a physician, combining his professional work with his ethnographic and bibliophilic interests. He actively participated in various organizations and scientific societies. He also collaborated with the Journal “Wisła”, whose editor was Jan Karłowicz. In the letters addressed to him, Czarkowsky deals primarily with ethnographic issues. He writes about the various dialect materials ha had collected, such as vocabulary, songs, proverbs and fairy tales. He also provides editorial comments on the articles published in “Wisła”.
