This research is a qualitative research with a descriptive approach. The subjects of this study were 29 seventh grade students at SMP Negeri 8 Kota Serang. The research instrument is a three-tier diagnostic test, a multiple-choice test with three levels that can measure students' conceptual understanding abilities which will be categorized into 4 categories. From the data obtained, the answers from the three levels were categorized based on the combination of answers.
