Job Satisfaction, Support, and Work-Life Balance Affected By Space and Attitudes While Teaching Online During the Global Crisis
The global crisis brought about by COVID-19 pandemic altered the teaching-learning situation in all levels of the Philippine educational system. Teachers from the tertiary level resorted to online teaching with different learning modalities. Thus, this study aimed to examine the perceptions of teachers trying to achieve job satisfaction, employers’ support, and work-life balance affected by working space and students’ attitudes while teaching online during the global crisis. Data were gathered from 256 respondents from seven colleges and universities using Google form link. Smart PLS was used in the statistical treatment of data. Findings revealed the following: Lack of employers’ support has a negative impact on job satisfaction; working space affects job satisfaction; Job satisfaction is negatively influenced by work-life balance (WLB); Work-life balance is positively influenced by working space; there is a negative link between students’ attitudes and work-life balance; Working space has a positive impact on teaching online; there is a negative link between students’ attitudes and teaching online; and there is a link between teaching online and employers’ support towards job satisfaction. Therefore, despite students’ negative attitude, teachers are still satisfied with their online teaching job if supported by their employers; given conducive space for working; and are able to balance their job with their family life. It is recommended that more schools be encouraged to participate in the survey to validate the researchers’ findings. Keywords: attitudes; employers’ support ; work-life balance; work satisfaction; working space
