This contribution to the IN'94 workshop gives an overview of the PLATINA distributed processing framework and describes the software structure of the targeted Platina telecommunication applications. In the first part, we shall briefly describe trends in telecommunication network evolution, namely evolution towards more intelligent and high bandwidth services, and underline some new requirements for call processing. PLATINA, a distributed processing platform, is being developed in the scope of telecommunication network applications. It provides simple models for object execution and communication in a large network. We shall review here some of the basic concepts that stand behind PLATINA. We then describe the software structure of PLATINA telecommunication applications. For call modeling, we decomposed and organized the software in several functional software modules and objects, according to a set of models and separation of concerns. We explain the respective role of each object, as well as the way objects cooperate and communicate within the architecture. We believe such an architecture is suitable for multi-user, multi-media, mobile and personal telecommunication services.
