Immunity of Mass-market Electrical Appliances to Harmonic Distortion of the Supply Voltage
IEC SC77A WG8 discusses a revision of compatibility level for harmonics in industrial networks. Following the assumption that these levels are likely to be adopted for public low voltage networks, some concerns about the possible effects of increased compatibility levels on electrical equipment used in public low voltage networks are expressed by experts. This paper summarizes the results of an initial study on the immunity of mass-market electrical appliances to harmonic distortion based on existing and expected compatibility levels. It intends to provide input for the ongoing discussion in IEC SC77A WG8 about appropriate compatibility levels acceptable for all stakeholders.
