The total cost is composed of fuel and electric energy consumption of the HEV. In order to improve the economy of the vehicle significantly, the start-up cost of the internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric motor (EM) need to be considered adequately when studying the EMS. But, start-up cost is dependent on time, which makes it difficult to apply dynamic programming (DP) to the EMS. To make the start-up cost relatively easy to handle, the HEV control problem is converted to an optimal switch problem in this paper. Then, we proposes a feedback hierarchical operation (FHO) algorithm, which can get optimal schedule of HEV.
