Suburban Propagation Measurements At 1.8 Ghz And Their Application To PCN

Future land mobile radio systems aimed at the mass market have an unprecedented capacity requirement especially in dense areas. Such capacities can only be achieved by using cell radii below 1 km and larger frequency allocations. However, in other areas, such small cells are not necessary because the demand and the propagation loss are lower. Personal Communications Networks (PCNs) will operate in the 1800 MHz band in two blocks of 75 MHz separated by a 20 MHz guard band. The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) has formulated a translation of the GSM 900 standard to the PCN band to form a new pan-European standard called Digital Cellular System 1800 (DCS1800).
