Achieving IT/OT integration with AMI, distribution automation & management solutions
This paper describes a layered approach using available metering and distribution field automation and management components that can be built around in a staged approach. Transforming a utility's existing distribution network from its current state to a smart grid requires a comprehensive program of discrete projects which incrementally improve the distribution network. The projects, which include the deployment of new field equipment, communication technology and smart grid applications, need to each deliver clear, measureable benefits to all stakeholders. The paper offers a target smart grid architecture given stage wise that may not necessarily all be in sequence. The paper proceeds to define a collection of projects most utilities establish to evolve their distribution network from its current state to the smart grid target state.
