Since public safety is a unique mission, the emergency responders need to be equipped with wireless broadband devices as well as services that will assure access, coverage, and security as well as a high level of reliability, which is unlikely to be provided by commercial entities. The fourth generation (4G) long term evolution wireless network offered the basis for the development of 5G.
