An automatic high-resolution, high-precision potentiometric device, suitable for continuous voltage balancing up to 10 V, is proposed. An 18-bit digital-to-analog converter (DAC) controlled by a personal computer (PC) via a suitable interface generates the balancing voltage. The flexibility of the basic structure allows it to be modified easily to obtain lower potentiometric full-scale voltages as small as 10 mV with the same relative resolution and accuracy, provided a suitable null detector is used. The PC also performs the automatic calibration of the DAC and the null detector. These operations are incorporated into general measurement control programs.<>
