Synthesis of robust-performance controllers using matrix experiments
This paper introduces the integration of robust control and quality control. Experimental design using orthogonal arrays is shown to provide controllers with performance-robustness property which is exactly the design goal of /spl mu/ synthesis. The observation reveals that the resulting controller satisfies the /spl mu/ test and approaches the optimal /spl mu/ controller, rendering the structured singular value less than unity and tending to flatten the /spl mu/ curve over some bandwidth of interests. Systematical procedures for this quality-orientated control design are outlined in this paper.
