Like with any other system, failures in power system can occur. In those situations it is critical that remedial actions are applied as soon as possible. To apply correct remedial actions it is very important that accurate fault condition and location are detected. In this paper, different fault location algorithms followed with description of intelligent techniques used for implementation of corresponding algorithms are presented. New approach for fault location using sparse measurements is examined. According to available data, it decides between different algorithms and selects an optimal one.
