Indigenous development and calibration of the current target required for calibration of the 30 KV ESD generators

Calibration of the ESD (Electro Static Discharge) gun which is required for EMC testing according to IEC 61000-4-2 Edition 2.0:2008-12 requires a set up which consists of the coaxial current target, cable and conical adapter assembly. This current target is required to withstand the 30KV Impulse and give a replicate current waveform across a 2.0 Ohms load which is proportional to the Impulse voltage that is generated by the ESD gun. The objective of this standard is to establish a common and reproducible basis for evaluating the performance of electrical and electronic equipment when subjected to electrostatic discharges. Thus consistency in results is of paramount importance. The testing of the indigenously developed Current Target and the Impedance Adaptor also designed and developed in-house have been fabricated as per the standard. The details of the Current Target calibration results are presented in the paper.
