The insulation of stators can be done with aramid paper, powder coating or overmolding with thermoplastic material. The so called open system with aramid paper uses inexpensive materials but it takes longer cycles and it is expensive to obey environmental laws. Powder coating is also labour and time consuming and has, as open systems, not the ability to generate a 3D-geometry. The thickness of the insulation is thicker when doing the insulaton with overmolding, however, overmolding generates a lot of benefits: lower cycle times, less labour, 3D-geometrie like posts, ball-bearing seats and termination features. No secondary operations are needed. These added values have the potential to reduce the overall system cost significant.
