Information System Development in a Global Environment
SUMMARY In this article the basic components of an information system in a multinational context are reviewed. Based upon these components, three types of generic challenges in developing a multinational information system are suggested: (1) managing the planning and development of the system; (2) challenges of data collection; and (3) technological and legal challenges related to transborder data flows. Finally, a local approach to information system development is outlined as the response corporations must take to achieve and maintain global competitiveness.
