The Role of Social Media in Creating Human Rights Culture Among Jordanian University Students

The present study aims to analyze the role of social media in disseminating the human rights culture among university youngsters by identifying its role in increasing their knowledge of the related issues. It further aims at providing legislations, developing values and reinforcing certain behaviors and respecting principles of human rights. The qualitative method is used as the researchers developed a questionnaire according to Likert five-point scale which was tested for its reliability and validity and then distributed to a sample of 1195 male and female students. The main findings of the study are: There has been an increasing use of social media by university students who highly depend on them as sources of information. The study proves that in spite of this heavy use of social media, it still does not succeed in fulfilling some of its functions related to changing and reinforcing the students' traditional culture of human rights.
