The number of IoT device connections is growing at a sustained pace, potentiating the rise of new business models, such as sensing as a service. However, the current provisioning and life cycle management of IoT end nodes (the devices that sense and interact with the environment) based on pre-configured/pre-installed software and manual updating procedures cannot sustain this continuous growth and the new service-oriented business models. We propose DOT to solve this problem. DOT automates IoT end nodes’ provisioning and life cycle management using standards to avoid vendor lock-in.
