Undoubtedly higher levels of fuel economy, reduced emission of greenhouse gases and other pollutants, and a lesser dependence on petroleum are among major incentives for many industrial and developing countries. The ultimate success of this transformation, in large part, depends on development of low cost, compact, efficient, fault tolerant, and quiet adjustable speed motor drives. The present article provides a comparison among major adjustable speed drives which are currently considered for electric propulsion.
