HOSPITAL COLÔNIA: UMA HISTÓRIA DE CRUELDADE FRENTE A OMISSÃO DE UMA SOCIEDADE

This article aims to explain the horrors experienced by the patients of the Barbacena Psychiatric Hospital, also known as Hospital Colônia, who for years committed crimes against human and fundamental rights of the patients who lived in its facilities, relating such crimes with the legislation in force in the Brazil, together with declarations and conventions ratified by it. It aims, therefore, to analyze the violation of human rights in light of the current legislation, since at that time there was not yet an International Organization of the United Nations that sought to universally guarantee human rights. Thus, in the light of current human rights, he problematizes the violation of human dignity. Considered by the journalist Daniela Arbex as the Brazilian Holocaust, the Colony was compared in several testimonies with the Nazi concentration camps. Thus, we can find in this article a comparison of the writings of Arendt and Bauman with the situation of the Hospital. This is a case study carried out using the deductive method.
