Televizyon Dizileri, Toplumsal Farkindalik Ve Otizm: “Mucize Doktor” Dizisi Örneği

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is an advanced complicated developmental disability that begins in early childhood, including delays in the development of basic functions such as language development, behaviour, and social interaction. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) studies are generally carried out in the field of medicine, psychology, or educational sciences in the literature. However, researchers have not focused much on the contribution that the mass media could make contributions to Autism Awareness. This study, revealing the awareness of television series about autism, examines whether and to what extent television series contribute to create awareness about autism by affecting our attitudes, behaviours, and point of views in the framework of Cultivation Theory created by Gerbner. In this context, by analysing the “Mucize Doktor” medical drama series, the effect of television production on individuals has been evaluated. The results have been reached applying two focus groups of 20 people in total. The study suggests that television serials create an important awareness regarding ASD.
