Operating overvoltage can not cause damage to it, but it can pose a greater threat to equipment with weak insulation, which will affect the safe operation of the power grid. In the paper, a simulation was produced based on the electromagnetic transient simulation software ATP-EMTP for the 35kV reactance fault in a substation. The overvoltages subjected to the reactance and its switching equipment are analyzed , and the causes of the equipment damage were analyzed in detail.
