Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) Hazard identification, reliability, risk analysis & Range Safety
Low speed Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are currently being used in the military for Surveillance and Target Acquisition (SATA) missions. High speed UAVs are used for target/decoy practice or weapon evaluation purposes. Aeronautical Development Establishment Bangalore is a power house for design, development, testing and evaluation of UAVs. Technological Innovation and increasingly diverse applications are two key drivers of the rapid expansion of UAV Technology. The global defence budget for UAV procurement is expanding, and in the future the market for civilian UAVs is expected to outmatch that of the military. Precision Agriculture, meteorology, conservation and border control are just a few of the diverse areas in which UAVs are making a significant impact. Hence the goal of regulating UAV operations is to ensure an appropriate level of safety. This paper will focus on UAV Equivalent Level of Safety (ELOS), safety assessments, and Ground impact Fatality Risk Modeling, system reliability requirements, collision probability, accident investigation considerations and risk mitigation for Unmanned Aerial System.
