The Data Communications Management Function (DCMF) is responsible for the communications routing protocols, both for the ACARS air-ground communications and the onboard, fiber optic avionics network. The Flight Deck Communications Function (FDCF) implements the crew interface to the data Link function using a Cursor Control Device (CCD) and Multi-Function Display (MFD) in addition to the conventional Control and Display Unit (CDU) and printer. FDCF is also responsible for the implementation of the customer unique Aeronautical Operational Control (AOC) applications which may be tailor-made and loaded into the system by the airline customer using a ground-based tool.
