This paper proposes a Wi-Fi aware/ neighbor awareness networking (NAN) technology- enabled V2X communication framework for ensuring a robust, reliable, and secure operation. In particular, we elaborate on how NAN technology can benefit present V2X systems and discuss the various applicable use-cases. Moreover, we highlight how the V2X networks can exploit the NAN technology's service discovery and classification feature in a NAN cluster. We also present a thorough discussion on the available threats and existing security solutions with the present V2X communication systems. Further, we elaborate on how the integration of NAN would benefit the security of the present V2X communication network deployments.
